Alain Meunier « France » |
|
Born as the third child among four siblings in Paris in 1942
during World War ll. Starting the cello from the age of seven,
entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of 13 and received
premier prix in chamber music at 15 and in cello at 16.
Suddenly quit musical activities at the age of 18 and studied
musical aesthetics and musicology. However, he began cello
again at 22 and played in front of Casals aiming at Prades
Festival. He entered Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena in
Italy, and was active as a member of an ensemble "Piano
Quintetto Chigiana" by Sergio Lorenzo after graduation. He
taught at Accademia Musicale Chigiana from 24 years old. and
served on the faculty at the Lyons Conservatory in France.
Having been a professor of the Paris Conservatory since 1989,
he is now a president of "Bordeaux International String Quartet
Competition".

Richard Aaron « USA » |

Richard Aaron has traveled extensively, giving master classes
in Madrid, Spain; Manheim, Germany; Seoul, Korea;
Matsumoto, Japan; and Paris, France. He has presented
master classes in the U.S. at many leading schools, including
Rice, Eastman, Michigan and Oberlin. He is a member of the
Elysian Trio, in residence at Baldwin-Wallace College. ln 1998,
he taught at New England Conservatory as a guest professor.
During summers, he has taught at various music festivals and
summer schools including the Aspen Music Festival. His
students have won numerous national and international
competitions and have performed as soloists with prestigious
orchestras, including the Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh
and Seattle Symphonies. He has served on the faculty at the
Cleveland Institute of Music since 1992.

Lluis Claret « Spain » |

Started musical education at the age of nine, he trained under
Enric Casals (violinist) , Pablo Casals' brother from 13. After
being awarded the first prizes in the International Competitions
of Bologna in 1995, Pablo Casals in 1976 and Mstislav
Rostropovitch in 1977, he has performed under the baton of
conductors such as Boulez, Münchinger, Neumann with
prestigious orchestras including the National Symphony
Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre
National de France and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. His
repertoire extends from Bach to contemporary composers,
including Boulez, Lutoslawski, Xenakis, Dutilleux. He teaches
at conservatories in Barcelona and Toulouse, France. He is a
founding member of the Trio de Barcelona from 1981 until
1994. He has recorded several CDs with Harmonia Mundi and
Auvidis labels.

Mineo Hayashi « Japan » |

Studying the cello from the early age, he studied under Hideo
Saito at the Toho Gakuen School of Music. After awarding
premier prix at the Geneva Conservatory, he made his debut as
a soloist with the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra in Europe. He
won first prize at the Belgrade International Cello Competition
in 1975. Made his debut in America in 1976, the following year
he was invited to the "Concert to Commemorate 100th
Anniversary of the Birth of Casals" in Spain. Since 1976,
performing with Swiss Romande Orchestra, Zagreb
Philharmonic Orchestra, etc., he has engaged in energetic
international concert activities as a soloist and a member of
chamber orchestra based primarily in Switzerland. He makes a
regular visit to Japan every year and holds concerts actively at
all around Japan. ln 1995, he held "Debut 20th Anniversary; 4-
Days Concert" at Casals Hall in Japan. He is now a professor
at the International Academy of Suzuki Method exerting himself
to train young players.

Hyun Minja « Korea » |

Born in Seoul, Korea Minja Hyun began her musical studies at
the early age on the piano and began playing the cello at age
of ten. As a student at the Ewha middle school and Seoul High
School of art and music she received many awards in national
cello and chamber music competitions for young artists. After
continuing her studies at College of Music, Seoul National
University, she pursued advanced studies in Europe at
Hochschure für Musik in Cologne, where she studied with
Gaspar Cassado. Andre Navarra was her teacher for a few
periods. She has made numerous soloist appearances with
orchestras and recitals in Korea, Japan, Europe and United
States. Since 1978 she has been a professor of cello at the
college of music, Yonsei University. Recently, she has focused
increasingly on teaching presenting many master classes in the
United States and Korea. She has served on the jury of many
major competitions including Paulo lnternational Cello
Competition in Helsinki, Finland, Festival Casals Grand Prix the
1st lnternational Cello Competition in Puerto Rico and
Gyeongnam international Music Competition 2006 in
Tongyeong, Korea.

Sumiko Kurata « Japan » |

Studied the cello under Hideo Saito and P.Tortelier and
chamber music under J. Fevrier. Won a prize at Japan Music
Competition white studying at Toho Gakuen High School. While
studying at Toho Gakuen School of Music, she got the
scholarship from French Government and went over to France.
Received premier prix in cello and chamber music at the Paris
Conservatory. After coming back to Japan, while holding
recitals and performing with main orchestras including NHK
Symphony Orchestra, she has traveled extensively performing
in Europe and Southeast Asia. Invited by China on the
occasion of 10th anniversary of restoration of diplomatic
relations between Japan and China, she performed actively in
various parts of China as a soloist with main orchestras while
teaching at Shenyang Conservatory of Music over two years.
She is now a professor at Toho Gakuen School of Music.

Wolfgang Lehner « Switzerland » |

The first violoncello lesson from his father at the age of 5.
Studied under Eduard Jäger, Fred Buck, Joseph Chuchro and
Julius Berger. Orchestra activities with the Hessischer
Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra and German chamber
orchestras. Energetic international concert activities as a
soloist and a member of chamber orchestra. The appearances
on the World Cello Congress with Cellissimo Ensemble,
Festivals in Kronberg and Evian, Seoul Art's Festival, and the
concert at Pablo Casals Museum in Vendrell, with
M.Rostropovich, E.lstomin and Montserrat Caballe. He
specializes in teaching cello ensemble at Mannheim University
of Music and Performing Arts and gives master classes at
California State University, Fullerton. He is now a president of
the Emanuel Feuermann lnstitute of Music. He is the co-author
of the instructional manual "Cello-spielen leichter - Cello-
playing easier."
